WHO'S WHO IN THIS HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE
WILLIAM PENN
ARAMARK
Dana Bedden
Dana is the superintendent of William Penn and has been since December of 2004. Since that time, Mr. Bedden has applied for 3 seperate superintendent jobs, getting shot down for all three. To my understanding, the last one even asked why Mr. Bedden moves around so much and never stays put. This remains to bes een, but Mr. Bedden has done or said nothing concerning all the mentioned problems.
Joe Otto
Joe Otto is the chief operating officer of WIlliam Penn (COO), but the problem here is that Joe just doesn't care. I got that out of meetings with him, was told that by Mr. Ulmer on several occassions and felt that ever since meeting Mr. Otto. He is two or three years away from retirement and really doesnt want to get involved in any major problems.
Oliver Delgado
Momma's boy took over for Pat Gallagher, and now feels he is the thrill that Manilla seeks. I've only met him once, and that was at most 12 seconds, and spoke with him on the phone twice, but my gut reaction is he was the red headed step child that every teased and made fun of. He has an attitude like if you cross him he'll win, and his temper seems short if not missing.
Rich Ulmer
My immediate supervisor when I was there, Mr. Ulmer was the person that everyone swore was on medication on some days and not on others. He had the Dr Jekyl/Mr. Hyde personality, and lied nicely to your face. He is the type that says he knows everything, but knows very little in fact. Report something to this guy and it either gets forgotten, or if its a good idea, it came from him.
The Players
Aramark
I'm not really sure what side of the fence this one should be on. What Aramark has done in the past seven years is remarkable. They have managed to fly under the radar with the Board of William Penn, as well as kiss up to the COO just enough to continue getting paid their money, even now without a contract. As an Aramark Manager at William Penn, you do nothing but sit in the office at 200 Pine Street, act as though you have important meetings everyday, and then collect your paycheck.
School Board
I have a major problem with a school board that stands behind its superintendent even though he's made it perfectly clear he wants out. Even more, a school board that I personally wrote to about these problems, but has yet to bring them up at one single board meeting.
THE VICTIMS
Unfortunately, the victims are the people that have to work under such horrendous conditions. The maintenance staff who every day must breath in mold spores from the Quarry Street. The Non union janitors like PW West who continually get threatened with their job by Aramark managers. And who suffers the most? The kids that go to these schools. How are they to know that the toilet paper they use came from a mold infested building? How do they know that if a fire should break out, the alarms call no one and the sprinklers may be disconnected? Or how would they know if a stranger that walked into the unlocked, broken door that the district says it cant afford to fix is friend or foe? Who suffers the most? The kids do. Who are the victims? The kids and workers.
